The summer season seems to be ending, but we are still not getting relief from the scorching heat of the sun. Humid and hot weather can bring a host of heat-related diseases and problems in our lives like heat rash, heat cramps, heat stroke, heat exhaustion, etc. It's essential to take preventive measures against these problems due to the changes in the climate with rising temperatures and humidity. The symptoms and signs of heat-related problems can vary from individual to individual. Dehydration can cause a feeling of thirst, fatigue, and dizziness. Heat stroke, that needs urgent medical help and attention, might include flushed or ho skin, nausea, a fast heart rate, headache, loss of consciousness, or confusion. Our bodies comprise of a number of mechanisms that help us in cooling down. One of the most important mechanisms is evaporation through sweat, but this becomes less efficient in the high humidity conditions. Also, when we are dehydrated, cooling off through evaporation becomes even more challenging. Here are some of the essential tips that you must follow in order to keep yourself safe and away from all the heat-related illnesses.

  • Make sure to seek cool or shady areas and avoid direct exposure to the heat whenever you step out.
  • Plan to take it all easy, especially when you are not used to staying out in the sun regularly.
  • Protect yourself from the heat of the sun and sunburns. Remember to apply a sunscreen whenever you step out in the sun and cover your face and hands with a scarf and hand gloves respectively.
  • Dampen the clothes or apply wet towels while cooling yourself with an electric fan.
  • Cool down with a cold shower or cold water bath.
  • Stay hydrated and make sure you avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks.
  • Wear loose, reflective, and light clothing.

Apart from following the tips and taking care of yourself, it is also essential to take care of your loved ones and relatives.
