This National Eye Donation Fortnight, Pledge To Donate Your Eyes To The Needy

By chemistsworld On 30 Aug 2018

The National Eye Donation Fortnight is celebrated from 25th August to 8th September every year. The celebration goes on for these many days in order to raise the awareness amongst individuals and to make them pledge to donate their eyes to the people who are in need and give them a normal life. To make the message reach to the public, many individuals come forward in group to explain the reasons behind eye donation to the individuals and perform skits to clearly explain the message of eye donation to the needy. According to a report, it is noticed that one of the five visually impaired individuals of the world is from India which implies no less than 46 lacs of Indians are experiencing the corneal visual deficiency though the rate of eye donation is just 35,000 eyes which just cannot satisfy the need of sound eyes to the average citizens. There is a huge gap between the procedure of interest and supply of the eyes. There are around 20,000 new instances of the eye visual impairment included each year. It is also noted that the majority of individuals who are visually impaired are young (because of wounds, diseases, inadequacy of Vitamin 'A') and their vision can be reestablished through corneal transplantation as it were. So it has turned out to be exceptionally important to teach the general population of the general public including both young and old to complete the gap amongst request and supply of the cornea. To expand the mass education and awareness, the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology has built up a control room where specialists and paramedical staffs give the detailed data concerning the eye bank. This National Eye Donation Day, let us all pledge together to donate eyes to the people in need to gift them a normal and beautiful life.
