SOME EFFECTIVE WAYS TO RELIEVE YOUR BABY’S TEETHING PAIN

By chemistsworld On 28 Aug 2017

Teething pain is a common problem in babies which occur during their growth and when the baby's teeth start emerging through the gums between 6-8 months of age, causing a lot of pain and discomfort that makes your baby cry a lot, and makes him irritable. It is a hard time for both parents as well as babies to face this situation. So what can you do for your sweet baby? Here, we are going to put a highlight on some preventive measure to help your little one to ease pain and decrease discomfort during those tumultuous teething days.

WHY DOES TEETHING HURT SO MUCH?

Teething is a different experience for every child. Your baby starts erupting teeth, while he/she was in your womb when tooth buds were formed in her gums. Now by this time teeth starts pushing through the gums. This is what is causing them to be painful and perhaps swollen. It is the same kind of pain what we adults go through when our wisdom tooth comes.

SIGNS INDICATING YOUR BABY IS TEETHING

Your baby first tooth is the lower tooth (lower central incisors), which appears while he/she is 6 months old followed by the upper central incisors, lower and upper lateral incisors, first molars, canines and second molars. Teething does not cause pain in all babies, but in some symptoms start appearing around a time when a new tooth is emerging, usually about 3-5 days. If your baby's teeth are on their way, you may come across your baby with these signs of teething:

  • Red swollen, inflamed gums with flushed/red cheeks or face
  • Brief periods of irritability, cranky for weeks with little fever
  • Heavy drooling, irritable and unsettled
  • Gum-rubbing, biting or rejecting food
  • Rubbing her ear on the same side, where the tooth is erupting
  • Sleepless at night and wakeful during the day and not feeding as well

BEST WAYS TO SOOTHE YOUR BABY'S PAINFUL GUMS?

There are plenty of things you can try before resorting to pain killers or teething gels.

1. Rub a clean finger over your baby's sore gums and apply little pressure to numb the pain temporarily. Pressure is soothing for inflamed gums.

2. You can give frozen fruits or veggies as cold helps to numb the area. Avoid giving white foods, such as refined sugar, flour and potatoes and dairy products as they can cause inflammation.

3. Continue breast feeding as it contains antibodies and will strengthen the immune system.

4. Make sure your baby gets enough rest and enough of fruit juices and vegetables in the diet. Try to minimize the stress levels, as it may lead to increase inflammation.

5. Give your baby probiotics to develop optimal health and provide them with liquid Vitamin D drops

6. You can give teething toys that are safe and non-toxic. They are available as silicone teething rings and natural solid wood toys in the market. The roughness of wood provides a soothing effect to babies, while silicone rings are made of safe silicone.

7. You can also give your baby a herbal infusion of rosehip, chamomile, and clove and can directly dab onto the baby's gums or else you can opt for tea as a beverage. Rosehip contains anti-inflammatory properties and helps to relax and soothe the irritability. 8. You may like to offer your baby a dummy to keep them engaged. Chewing on the that may help your baby to soothe herself from pain.

Teething can be uncomfortable, but if your baby seems very fussy, consult the Pedodontist. He may advise acetaminophen or ibuprofen (for babies older than 6 months) to ease discomfort. If your baby has a fever, it's probably due to something other than teething and you should call your physician.
