Ill Effects of Air Pollution on Human Health

By chemistsworld On 12 May 2017

Gone are the days when the natural resources such as air, water, and soil were pure. With the advancements in technology and increasing population number, there has been a brutal exploitation of these resources. No matter how many air conditioners we install, nothing can actually bring back the air quality that our ancestors have experienced. Out of all, air pollution is the most dangerous one and it is hampering the health of the individuals in a drastic way. In a layman's language, pollution denotes addition of different forms of waste materials into the environment. This ultimately put negative effects to our ecosystem leading us vulnerable to many harmful diseases. In this write-up, we have made an attempt to elaborate the bad effects of air pollution on human health:

  • In no circumstances, breathing polluted air can be less harmful. Gradually, the air that we breathe has depleted so much that excessive exposure to it can even lead to cancer development. We release a variety of chemicals into the atmosphere when we burn the fossil fuels we use every day. We breathe air to live and what we breathe has a direct impact on our health. Other minor health problems that can affect the human body are asthma and issues related to the respiratory tract.
  • The air pollutants put a severe impact on the immune system of the body. Other systems that are commonly affected are endocrine and reproductive systems.
  • There has been observed a significant increase in the cardiovascular problems due to the increasing pollution levels.
  • The overall temperature of the earth has been raised after the increase in the carbon dioxide level in the air. This ultimately contributes towards global warming.
  • High concentration of Sulphur Dioxide results in increased mucus production. This puts a really bad impact on the respiratory system, resulting in a cough, uneasy breathing, and eye irritation.

Air pollution is not at all recommended for a healthy living. We need to take some serious actions today so as to make a better living for the future generations. It is high time that we must grow more trees and lessen the usage of all pollution sources for a better tomorrow.
