Asthma is a chronic lung disorder that is marked by recurring episodes of airway obstruction. And in simple terms it is a physical condition that makes it difficult for someone to breathe. Especially by wheezing , coughing and by a sense of constriction in the chest. Asthma can be caused by both hereditary and environmental factors.
The strongest risk factors for developing asthma are:
1) Exposure to indoor allergens such as house dust mites in bedding, carpets and stuffed furniture
2) Pollution and pet dander.
3) Outdoor allergens such as pollens and moulds.
4) Tobacco smoke
5) Chemical irritants at the workplace.
Asthma triggers can include cold air, extreme emotional arousal such as anger or fear, and physical exercise. Asthma occurs globally regardless of level of development. Over 80% of asthma deaths occur in low and lower-middle income countries. For effective control, it is essential to make medications affordable and available, especially for low-income families.
Symptoms:
1) The basic reasons may occur several times in a day or week in affected individuals.
2) For some people the symptoms may cause difficulty in breathing, chest pain, cough & wheezing. Failure to recognize and avoid triggers can lead to a tightened airway which can be life threatening and may result in an asthma attack, respiratory distress and even death.
