CONSTANT BURPING – POSSIBLE REASONS BEHIND IT!

By chemistsworld On 08 Dec 2017

Burping also known as, belching after a meal is known to be a good indication that the food is digested well, but sometimes it is embarrassing too if an aloud burp gets out in front of a public. Sometimes excessive belching could be a sign of a disorder with the Gastrointestinal Tract (GIT) and needs to be taken care of. Belching is generally caused by swallowing of air and the release of gas from the digestive tract or esophagus through the mouth. By adopting simple lifestyle changes, you can control stomach wind and alleviate the discomfort of burping.

ACID REFLUX OR STOMACH ULCERS: Acid reflux could be the cause of burping. This can also lead to burning sensation in the chest. Taking large meals, spicy foods & obesity could be the cause of stomach ulcers or acid reflux.

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS): Commonly, it has been found that excessive burping or belching could also result due to IBS also, which affects large intestine & may damage it.

PRE-CANCEROUS CHANGES: A chronic acid exposure in the esophagus can be a sign of pre-cancerous change and you should consult a doctor immediately as it could lead to a serious issue.

HIATAL HERNIA: Constant burping could result in a hiatus hernia. Hiatal hernia is a condition when a part of your stomach pushes up through the diaphragm (muscle between your abdomen & chest) and into your chest region.

PHYSIOLOGICAL CAUSES: Certain types of foods such as cabbage, cauliflower, carbonated beverages, and beans may lead to gas or flatulence in the stomach, which in result leads to belching. However, if you encounter the problem of persistent belching, then you should definitely take it seriously as it may be related to disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.

INTOLERANCE TO CERTAIN FOODS: Certain foods, which are not digested well can also lead to the production of gas due to nutrients in it and as a result leads to belching or burping.

BACTERIAL GROWTH IN SMALL INTESTINE: Sometimes a bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine, which affects duodenum, can also lead to constant burping.
