Asthma is a chronic lung disorder that causes severe breathing problems due to inflammation in the lungs. The airways in the lungs become narrower and get completely filled with mucus. This, in turn, leads to short breaths, tightness of the chest, wheezing, and coughing problems. If this doesn't get attention on time, this can get severe and may even leave you breathless. The major issues that cause Asthma are dust, smoke, irritants, fumes and even chemical allergens like grass and pollen. Now, when you suffer from an asthma attack, there may be either of the scenarios: you have an inhaler that may save you from the disaster instantly, even when there's no one around. Or, it might happen that you may feel helpless even in the crowd of 20 people if you do not have an inhaler. But, you need not worry anymore, we have got you covered. Here's how you should be dealing with the asthma attack in both the scenarios.

When you have an inhaler

  • First and foremost, you must sit in the upward position(upright direction).
  • Now take small puffs from the Asthma inhaler.
  • Wait for almost 3-4 minutes to get yourself recovered. If it does not recover, go for another puff.
  • If the problem still persists, call the emergency number 102.

When you do not have an inhaler

  • Sit in the upward position.
  • Take deep and long breaths to prevent hyperventilation.
  • Panicking will only worsen the situation, and may tighten your chest. So, do not panic at all.
  • Immediately go away from any kind of dust, smoke or chemical in your area.
  • Consume a hot caffeinated drink. This helps in opening up the airways.
  • If there is no relaxation, call for an ambulance by dialing 102.
