Fried Food A Big Risk Factor In Heart Disease

Diet is always a major factor in determining one’s health. Over the last decade, due to several factors like rapid mechanization and economic development, diet and lifestyle have changed drastically. To adjust the pace of life, foods needed to be preserved for longer. As a result, people resorted to eating more fried foods than ever.

A lot of studies associate fried food with a heightened risk of heart diseases. Though it is still debated, a recent meta-analysis has shown that consuming excess amounts of fried food may lead to many cardiovascular diseases, including stroke. Usually, the diet in western countries is high in processed meats, saturated fats, refined sugars, and carbohydrates. Fried foods are usually dipped in flour and often carry a lot of calories. As fried foods are delicious, there is a chance of developing overeating. In addition to that, fried foods from most of these popular fast-food chains contain Trans fats. When the hydrogenated vegetable oils are used for cooking them, it produces trans-fatty acids in the food. These are particularly harmful to our body as they increase low-density lipoprotein, which is commonly termed as ‘bad’ cholesterol. It also reduces the amounts of high-density lipoprotein, which is actually good for our body.

Deep frying also produces an increased amount of chemical by-products that significantly affect our body’s inflammatory response. Especially when we consume fried foods that are made away from home, oil is not discarded after a single-use. With every reuse, oil tends to become more degraded and gets absorbed into the food easily. It can contribute to a rise in cholesterol and hypertension levels, which are again risk factors for developing type-2 diabetes and heart diseases. Also, fried foods with huge amounts of salt are served alongside sodas with heaps of sugar in them, which will further amplify these fried foods’ negative influence.

However, when consumed in fewer amounts, fried foods seemed to cause no harmful effect on our health. Though many scientists associate eating junk food with obesity, type-2 diabetes, coronary artery diseases, and hypertension, concrete evidence is yet to be provided. But it is essential to adapt to a healthier lifestyle and eat a balanced diet for increased well-being. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables, keeping yourself hydrated, and exercising regularly will enhance your health and reduce the risk of you acquiring many life-threatening diseases.
