6 WAYS TO DE-STRESS YOURSELF IN MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

Stress is a major factor for many patients with multiple sclerosis. From worry about the unpredictable nature of the disease to concerns about work, family, money, and more, having this disease can be a significant stressor all on its own. Managing stress can help reduce the development of new lesions in patients with MS. Try these tips to keep stress to a minimum and possibly ease your MS.

Look for signs : Patients may be stressed due to the disease, but not even realize it. Paying close attention to your unique stress response can help you recognize when it begins. Common symptoms of stress include breathing difficulty, tight muscles, sweaty hands and fatigue. It may be hard to differentiate between stress and your symptoms. Keeping a record of when you feel stressed, as well as surrounding events, may help you to make the difference.

Be proactive : Know what actually triggers your stress and take steps to avoid it or prepare yourself to face it. Expecting stress and mentally preparing yourself for it can help tame it and keep it in perspective.

Get more sleep : Stress can interfere with your sleep. Make an effort to get more of good-quality sleep of 8-9 hours a day to recharge your energy. Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and comfortable and avoid stimulation, such as caffeine, nicotine that could interfere with your sleep.

Use exercise as a de-stressing tool : Exercising 20- to 30-minutes a day increases endorphins, our happy hormones, which boosts the ability to cope up with stress on a day-to-day basis.

Meditate and relax your mind : Release your mind from all the stress, close your eyes, breathe normally through your nose, feel quiet, and continue this for 10 minutes. Take out your some time to recharge yourself when you are little stressed. Get a massage and take a shower with lukewarm water

Find a support system : Spend time with your friends who understand your condition and are willing to listen. Share your feelings with closed ones. Discussing your concerns with others can help you feel much better and would help you to see things from a different perspective. Many patients believe that stress can make their symptoms worse, but staying active, finding support and enjoying life can help you to deal with the situation in a better way.
